Poems from the News
Poems always used to deal with big events – battles, mining disasters, the death of a king. Recently, poetry got a bit shy about that, didn’t think poems should deal with real events, or take a particular line. Personally, I’ve always liked Blake, Shelley, Adrian Mitchell – poets who weren’t afraid to say what they thought, or which side they were on.
I’ve always done short comic poems, and have had some published in The Guardian.
