"If you liked that, you'll love this!" We know Hollywood works that way. David O Russell, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Robert de Niro. Great in Silver Linings Playbook, so let's reunite the team and have "Joy". Actually, no. It's dire. I worship Jennifer Lawrence, and will happily watch her read the telephone directory. Here, she does a great job with what she's given, but what she's given is dire. It's all about her, none of the other characters is taken seriously, it's disjointed and unconvincing, and finally sentimental - none of the poise, wit and economy - not to mention heart - that made SLP so enjoyable. It doesn't matter who the stars are. If the script's not right, the film's not right - and this was a wasted eveneing.
