Really? That’s what The Guardian headline says, and I’m sure they know, but I find it hard to believe. I’m not an economist, but I know this much. There’s the real economy, which few of us understand. and then there’s myths about the economy, which circulate whether or not they’re true. Myth no. 1: The banks collapse didn’t matter – it was Labour who wasted all that money. Myth No 2: It’s been tough, but things are better now. In the last week I’ve read two long articles which to me demonstrate very plausibly why both those myths are false,but they’re too little, too late, and will have no impact at all on those who believe them. Is that why politicians are so cynical, because they know that we’re dumb?
