Petraeus all at sea

David Petraeus, one time US general and media superstar, gets funnier by the day. After embarrassing revelations about his affair and possible breaches of security, he’s about to start his rehabilitation campaign, with a statement that will describe the affair as him “slipping his moorings.” You couldn’t make it up.

It’s always the non-poets who make most the most devastating use of imagery. My all-time favourite is the legendary Geoff Boycott. “I don’t like metaphors. I don’t beat around the bush.”
