Cuts, and more cuts

It’s OK, this isn’t really happening; it’s just an April Fool. You know what The Guardian is like on this particular date…Sadly, it’s all true. The banner headline modestly proclaims “The day Britain changed”, and it’s hard to argue with that. Crucial changes to bedroom tax, legal aid, benefits, NHS commissioning and the regulation of finance. It would be lovely if at least some of these were positive, or even neutral, but they’re not. All the evidence suggests that deep, lasting damage is being done, some of which will never be repaired. And what can we do about it? Extremely little. I hate sounding so defeatist, and will happily support anything which looks like offering meaningful resistance, but this is going to be a long, long haul.
