Benefits

The scariest thing about the benefits freeze is that it’s not meant to save money. Sarah Teather, Lib. Dem. MP who used to be a minister, confirms that the government do know that they’re doing. They’ve done the sums. They realise that cutting benefits means that some families will be kicked out of their accommodation, and will then need to be rehoused, and the expense of that will outweigh any savings. But they still want to do it. They’re not saving scarce resources for the benefit of us all; they’re teaching the lower classes a lesson, and giving Labour a tactical dilemma. And that’s the buzz that makes our masters smile as they deliver their bad news.
