Wikipedia sometimes gets a raw deal. OK, some of its adherents are a wee bit gullible, and it’s nice to know that facts have been thoroughly checked, but now and again you come across a gem, not just of information, but of style. This sentence, for instance, commenting on how Iain Duncan Smith’s department pursues benefit claimants it suspects of fraud:

“His department had previously been subject to criticism for trying to force one of the world’s longest surviving kidney dialysis patients with 33 years of renal treatment, four failed transplants and 14 heart attacks back to work.”

I’m sure Dr. Johnson would have liked the way “back to work” is saved till the end, the clinching nail in the coffin.
