The blame game

Finally, they get it. When the floods start, Cameron wants us to know that all the trouble stems from Labour’s incompetence in the 1990s. Eric Pickles is eager to apologise, so long as we realise that he was taking mistaken advice from the Environment Agency. And then we get the small print. The environmental Agency is only authorised to recommend action within very tight guidelines – i.e. don’t spend too much unless you can be sure it would save us spending zillions if we didn’t. Pickles belatedly realises that we actually need people at the environmental Agency to keep doing their jobs, so now he says what a wonderful bunch they are. And Cameron, who started the whole charade, says “Stop the flooding blame game.” You couldn’t make it up.
