Some political crises look pretty straightforward, at least from the outside. Syria has always looked a nasty, complicated mess, with tons of drawbacks to every possible response. But to me, if not to David Cameron, it’s a relief that the UK parliament hasn’t endorsed military action, and I’m heartened by Ed Miliband’s contribution to top level discussions with Cameron and Clegg: “You have to realise, that after Iraq they don’t trust any of us.” Exactly so.
