I wasn’t sure I was going to like this TV series, and didn’t bother seeing the first one, but then my son suggested i might be missing something, so I caught up. I’m really glad I did. It’s clever and sustained, with a really atmospheric set – furnaces, gloomy lanes and 1920s costume. OK, so some of the Birmingham accent aren’t spot on, but I liked the modern music, and Sam Neill and Cillian Murphy were really good. With the exception of a slightly dodgy cop-out at the very end, it handled suspense really well. Yet another pleasure, in a good year for TV drama.
