Now this does look tasty. The telly is stuffed with cop shows, wall to wall, so it would be easy to yawn and turn away. But this one is tough and clever, interesting and well worth following. It does the politics within the police really well (advice from Brian Paddick, who’s seen a lot), and it has a terrific cast – Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compson, Vicky Mcclure and Keeley Hawes. But beyond all that – I would say, wouldn’t I? – is the writer. Jed Mercurio has always been worth watching. Stunning hospital series (Cardiac Arrest and Bodies, both riveting and not seen by enough people) and a spooky astronaut novel which was definitely out of the ordinary. So if I happen to be at home for the next few Wednesday evenings, I shan’t mind a bit.
